Wisdom Teeth FAQ
What are wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth are your third molars located in the back of your mouth. They usually are the last to develop.
Why do wisdom teeth need to be removed?
If they are impacted and or cause crowding in your teeth, it is recommended that they be removed to avoid damaging the surrounding teeth. Wisdom teeth are located in the very back of the mouth and access to maintain hygiene to those teeth is limited. Wisdom teeth may become badly infected and decayed and will require removal.
How much will it cost to get my wisdom teeth removed?
Every case varies because the treatment is dependent on the position and complexity of each tooth. After coming into our office for a consultation we will have a better understanding of what exactly needs to be done in order to give a move accurate cost. The estimate that our surgical coordinator carefully puts together for you will be discussed at the consultation. Our office will work with your dental insurance company to maximize your dental benefits.
What are some problems that can arise if I do not remove my wisdom teeth?
Wisdom teeth, if not grown properly, can cause further dental problems, including damage to surrounding teeth, jaw damage (cyst growth), inflamed/infected gum tissues, cavities, alignment problems, or sinus issues.
What is the recovery period for wisdom teeth extractions?
We usually estimate 5-7 days for a recovery period, however some people may experience shorter of longer recovery times.
Will I feel pain during the procedure?
Our office specializes in providing pain-free removal of wisdom teeth under anesthesia. Doctor Hong is a Board Certified Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon with extensive training in anesthesia.
